Mandala: The Art of Relaxation

What is a Mandala?
A mandala (Sanskrit for “circle”) is an artistic representation of higher thought and deeper meaning given as a geometric symbol used in spiritual, emotional, or psychological work to focus one's attention.

The image first appears in India via the Hindu text known as the Rig Veda c. 1500 - c. 500 BCE but has been used by cultures around the world in many different periods up to the present. The mandala’s purpose is to help transform ordinary minds into enlightened ones.

“The architecture of the mandala represents both the nature of reality and the order of an awakened mind.”

John Powers

Mandalas are a type of religious and spiritual art with a deep significance for many people. As a symbol of the cosmos or universe, a traditional mandala is a square containing a circle, and the entire design is symmetrical and balanced. Some spiritual traditions use mandalas for meditation or for marking a spiritual space.

Mandala was the key to self-understanding and self-acceptance; by experience mandalas, one could come to know one's self more completely, recognize unhealthy thoughts and behaviors, and move closer to the center of one's actual being, leaving behind the various illusions of the self which clouded and confined one's psychological and spiritual vision.

The blending of Mandala and dot art brings about a soothing, almost therapeutic painting that is traditional in its approach and yet adds a contemporary touch to any modern home.

Dot art is basically a mandala technique for abstract art which also helps you to relax and enjoy the art like that of the other types of arts. This is the magic of art, which can convert anything into pure beauty.
